Therapy Walk: Single at 32 and Dressing Like It (For Myself)
My style is a metaphor for how I have returned to my true self upon being single again. Plus, I have many fun wardrobe items I wear now that I wouldn't have while in my relationship :)
I have always identified as someone who dresses for myself. In High School, boys used to bully me for what I wore (specifically a faux fur vest—it was the “Rachel Zoe” era). In college, someone (also a man) said I looked like Lady Gaga’s little sister (I took it as a compliment—it was the East Village outside of my art school). I never stopped dressing for myself, though, and when I met my ex, I was wearing the things I loved. I thought my style was one of the things he liked about me. Only when that relationship ended did I realize the past seven years had impacted my identity and style.
